CISWA 29th Annual Conference

Reaching for a better future for international students”

Thursday 17 November 2022
9.00 am – 3.30 pm
Nesuto Curtin Perth Hotel

The CISWA Annual Conference is unique, in that no other international education conference provides the in-depth WA state level focus into international education. That is why the conference is a ‘must attend’ for WA professionals working within the international education industry.

On 17th November, over 120 representatives from 32 organisations joined us at the CISWA 29th Annual Conference. This year’s conference theme was ‘Reaching for a better future for international students’.

The Conference has already garnered a lot of positive feedback as one of the best we’ve done. Here is some of the feedback we have received:

‘CISWA is doing a good job, keep it up!’

‘I think the range of topics covered is quite good for this year. Having a similar format for next year would be good. Thank you.’

‘Enjoyed a friendly atmosphere and good networking. Looking forward for more events.’

‘It is always great to attend the CISWA events. Thank you for all your hard work in 2022. Really appreciate it.’

‘I really appreciate your efforts in having this conference, hearing updates and prospective from different parties, meeting with new and old friends from the industry. We had a good day yesterday, much appreciated.’

‘The pace of the day was very good, no doubt due to terrific organisation but also because of the engaging nature of the speakers and Callum’s hosting. It’s always encouraging when different parts of the sector are brought together and CISWA did an excellent job in providing a program that had something for everyone.’

It was a full house at Nesuto Curtin Perth Hotel when Professor Seth Kunin, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Global Curtin welcomed the guests to campus and Hon David Templeman MLA, Minister for International Education, formally opened the Conference. The conference delivered a broad range of speakers from different sectors and across various topics. Morning sessions started with an update on StudyPerth’s recent initiatives, followed by morning tea and a presentation on current projects from the WA Police Diversity and Engagement Unit, an update on visa processing from the Department of Home Affairs, and an accommodation update by StudyPerth.

After lunch and networking, the afternoon provided conference attendees an offshore update and summary of State Budget incentives from Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation. This was followed by a very successful session on Mental Health, Student Engagement and Wellness Initiatives by multiple speakers, from WA institutions and organisations, including Murdoch University, Kaplan Business School, TAFE International WA, Multicultural Services Centre of Western Australia and Edith Cowan University.

The CISWA Conference concluded at 3.30 pm at which point, all guests were invited to join us for the CISWA End of Year Networking at Nesuto Rooftop Bar.

CISWA would like to thank all the presenters who took part in the CISWA 29th Annual Conference and have kindly made their presentations available.

Thank you to all our dedicated colleagues who helped organise the Conference and to all in the international education sector that joined us on the day. CISWA is committed to support you in your role and we look forward to meeting you at CISWA 30th Annual Conference in 2023!
