Glenda Husk, A/Executive Director for Service Delivery, Department of Training and Workforce Development, presented the WA International VET Student of the Year Award to Yezmin ASSAD from National Institute of Technology Australia.
2021 WINNER: Yezmin ASSAD, Advanced Diploma of Information Technology, National Institute of Technology Australia.
Yezmin is from Argentina where she worked in IT. Over the last two years she has been studying for an Advanced Diploma in Telecommunications Network Engineering at the National Institute of Technology in Perth. During her studies there she has received an Excellence Performance Award in every term.
At NIT she has been a student mentor and very active in supporting other students in their studies. She focused on promoting discussions and active listening as well as instigating teamwork and empathy. As a personal supporter, she felt responsibility to revert situations that had lack of enthusiasm from some of the attendees by implementing different approaches to gain their attention and by giving them space to participate. These scenarios ended up in great discussions where everyone shared experiences and exchanged meaningful messages with other participants.
To improve her ability to contribute to others in this way she is also studying for a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. She has also represented NIT in various career and recruiting activities. Yezmin Assad is truly worthy of the CISWA international VET student of the year award.
